LEOMINSTER, Mass. Hurricane Lee, however, is set to make landfall in New England by the end of this week. This comes as New England still struggles with days of extreme weather which have produced floods, sinkholes, torrential rainfall, and a possible tornado.

National Hurricane Center warned Wednesday evening that there is a Hurricane Watch from Stonington Maine all the way to the U.S./Canadian Border, with hurricane conditions and possible coastal flooding Friday night or Saturday.

A tropical storm warning is in place for the following areas: Watch Hill (Rhode Island), Stonington (Maine), Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket. Cape Cod Bay and Nantucket are under a watch for storm surges, with potentially life-threatening flooding.

In Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the looming hurricane was threatening to bring more storms. On Wednesday communities were faced with warnings of tornadoes and heavy rains that created sinkholes.

National Weather Service Boston reported that radar data, videos and other evidence indicated it was very likely a storm caused trees to fall and damage power lines on Wednesday in Rhode Island and Connecticut. After the storm, pictures from Lincoln in Rhode Island revealed that the roof of the school was at least partially damaged. The press box had also been knocked into the bleachers.

Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee posted on Facebook that the emergency operations center of the state was activated. It will monitor the rapidly changing weather conditions in the next few weeks.

McKee told us that the best thing to do is stay updated on frequent updates.

Sean Pope sat in North Attleborough Massachusetts on Monday night and watched the forecast. He was uneasy. The heavy rainfall turned the swimming pool of Sean Pope into a pit filled with mud and water.

He added, “I will wait and watch the weather and look for areas where rain is likely to fall and breaks.” “We need to ensure that the pumps function.”

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey has declared a State of Emergency following the “catastrophic” flash floods and damages to properties in two counties. Matthew Belk from the National Weather Service Boston described the torrential rainfall that occurred in just six hours in early this week as a 200-year event.

Healey announced on Wednesday that her state’s Emergency Management Agency is ready to assist in the event of a severe weather situation. She stated that the state was monitoring dam conditions and encouraged residents to follow flood warnings.

In Leominster in Massachusetts, the rain caused several sinkholes. One of them was near a dealership and swallowed several cars. Downpours in Providence flood a parking area and part of a mall. Inflatable boats were used by firefighter to save more than 20 people stuck in their vehicles.

Leominster, Massachusetts experienced rain Wednesday afternoon after an otherwise dry day. A flash flood warning was in effect for parts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. On Tuesday, heavy rains poured down in Danbury in Connecticut. There, officials had to pull several people out of vehicles that were stuck in floodwaters.

It was not the rain that caused flooding this past week. The hurricane could reach Nova Scotia in Canada and possibly land as a tropical cyclone, according to forecasters.

“The soil is saturated.” The ground can’t hold any more,” Leominster, Massachusetts Mayor Dean Mazzarella stated at a Wednesday news conference.

Mazarella stated that as many 300 people had evacuated the city by early Tuesday morning. This is unprecedented for this area, since it has not experienced such extensive damage in this way since a hurricane hit in 1936. Some buildings collapsed and most downtown buildings were inundated.

According to him, the early estimates of city infrastructure restoration could range anywhere between $25 and $40 million.
