Mold has been a problem at Walt Disney World for many years. Mold thrives in humid, warm environments. The fact that Disney has refused to act is what surprises me the most. Mold is a constant problem for Disney, and they have always dealt with it swiftly in the past. We have been seeing an alarming amount of mold reports over the past few months.
A woman who was staying with her mother at Disney’s Pop Century became sick. According to u/jayceevail, “When she checked in, I immediately noticed that there was a musty odor in the room. She complained about it.” The woman continued to say that it got worse every night. At first, the front desk received a notification about the smell but did nothing.
They got sick in the end. The Redditor said, “My mother felt awful and short of breathe very quickly.” The odor of the room was not enough to make her family believe that it was asthma. “I woke up at 1pm feeling like I could not breathe because the pain was that severe,” said u/jayceevail.
Both of them had similar symptoms, which made it obvious that there was something wrong in the room. One person called to tell the staff that they had fallen ill, and the room should be inspected. The inspection revealed that the refrigerator had a leak and had mold on the wall.
The damage had already been done. According to Redditor, the two were sick for the rest of the vacation. U/jayceevail was told by Pop Century that Disney would call them to further discuss this matter once they got home.
