A staff report stated that extensive water damage on the southern end of first and second floor of the building was found after the roof drainage pipe had become disconnected the day before during heavy rainfall.
Damage was done to carpets, office furniture, computers, drywall and ceiling tiles. Health and safety issues forced the evacuation of west-side building.
The report stated that the cost of restoration, reconstruction, and replacement damaged items was $210 615. Municipality was covered by insurance, however, the deductible for the municipality is $250,000. Therefore, the loss will come from the reserve.
To expedite this process, the remediation and restoration of water damage were classified as an emergency repair.

First Choice DKI Restoration completed its restoration work on July 31. The second-floor and first-floor renovations were completed on August 14th, respectively.
Westhoek Construction rebuilt damaged areas including replacing carpet, drywall and ceiling tiles and wall panels, as well as painting.
In July, air quality tests revealed that mould spores were slightly higher than normal. An investigation found the insulation between panels of wall was not drying correctly.
The crews removed the wall panels, insulation and other saturated materials to ensure proper drying of affected areas.
By July 20th, the potential mold issue was resolved and no contamination was detected by August 17th.
The report stated that the civic centre houses many departments critical to the municipality, with a number of services accessible by walk-in or appointment.
