Yelitza Castlelar Ruiz is the candidate for mayor of Calamar, in the Bolivar department. She received an unwelcome surprise when the walls of her home in this municipality, were vandalized with paint, a sign that read “quit”, and broken windows.
Candidate Castellar explained, “This morning as I usually do I went out to the street to work on the campaign and found that there was this large graffiti and all the windows were broken.”

The candidate claims that her home and political headquarters have also been targeted. In my headquarters, in the Sleep neighbourhood, we were also the targets of multiple attacks. Our banners and posters had been removed. “I have been attacked verbally and physically in the streets,” said the Calamar candidate for mayor.
The candidate for first place of the Calamarences, faced with such a situation, rejected these actions and requested that the authorities take immediate action to ensure her safety.
“We condemn this attack, not just on a female candidate but also against her. “Today I am afraid for my own life. Today it was just broken glass and scratches on walls. But we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. I’m scared for my future and call for action from the authorities,” declared the mayor candidate.
The regional elections in this country will be held on the 29th of October.
