NOLENSVILLE. Tenn., (WKRN). — On Tuesday, two boys threw a rock at the Morton Brittain House, which is 153 years old. The damage was more than 1,000 dollars.
Morton Brittain House in Nolensville, Tennessee, was built in 1870 and nearly destroyed in 2018. A developer had bought the plot of land it was on. Nolensville Historic Society moved the home to another parcel of land that they found after months.
Greg Bruss (the Morton Brittain House’s project manager) has been working for the last five year to restore this home using donated money and the funds raised from countless hours spent fundraising.
“My view is that if you do not know your past and present, you will never be able predict the future,” Bruss added. Nolensville, while growing quickly, is also losing its rich history.
Adding, “[This] house is worth saving. Take the time to do so,” he said.
Nolensville Police Department reports that on Aug. 22 at around 3:30pm, surveillance footage captured two boys throwing rocks through the window of the house.
Bruss stated to News 2 the project will take years and that Tuesday’s accident would make it longer.
“We don’t only need to raise the funds, we also have to buy glass from up North that they salvaged from old buildings and then ship it down to here. Once it is cut, it takes a lot more time, it really is unfortunate,” Bruss stated.
Bruss spent his Friday, August 25, taping the broken window. The damage was estimated at more than $1,000.
“It’s sad that the monuments have lasted 153 year, then in a single moment someone decides not to think and throws a handful of rocks,” Bruss explained. “I do not know what this did for the other people, but I think it has helped us a great deal.”
Bruss said he hoped the two vandals would come forward and confess to their wrongdoing, either by paying to fix the broken windows, or working to repair the Morton Brittain House.
Bruss explained: “And, hopefully, learn a lesson. They can then go into their future and be better individuals.” It’s something I want to see. Just wait to see.
